Non-Fiction — Kevin

Just dropped off Kevin at Wellesley & Parliament. What an awesome lady! She had me in stitches for the whole ride. Kevin says, "I changed everything else — and I do mean EVERYTHING — but I liked my name, my parents gave it to me, so I'm keeping it!"
Thanks for the laughs Kevin. And it's your name, your choice! You go girl! 󾌵

Non-Fiction — TTC Bus

So, my car had a fight with a TTC bus this morning.
Rush hour traffic in the rain along Eglinton Ave. E. where construction has everything merging into one lane...stuff happens. Except not everyone has good "merge genes", not even bus drivers :)
Oh well, life goes on — well, eventually it does...because even though it's minor damage the TTC still has major paperwork to do, so this is eating up a few hours of my day.
The good news is, in the end, a tiny dent that can be pushed out and some fairly large abrasions that (I hope) can be buffed out and I'll be good as new :)

Non-Fiction — hookah lounge

Yesterday I drove Naresh to Centennial College. He mentioned the name of a restaurant I had heard of, saying he was working there to help pay his way through college. I asked him if that was a breakfast place and he laughed saying, no, no, no, it's a hookah lounge.
I had never heard the term "hookah" before so, because Naresh had a bit of an accent, I presumed he meant "hooker". Here's how the conversation went from there...
ME: Really? That's legal?
NARESH: Ya, sure. Why not?
ME: Well do they need a special licence of some sort? Like it's a private club or something?
NARESH: No, anybody can come in.
ME: Well, except kids.
NARESH: No, kids can come in, they just can't smoke or drink.
ME: Seriously? And this is legal?
(Naresh is looking at me now like I've lost my mind...which I had)
NARESH: Yes, of course. There are lounges all over.
ME: Okay. So how many women are typically there?
NARESH: Not many really. It's mostly men.
ME: So I guess there are private rooms where couples hook up.
NARESH: (laughing) No! Just a lounge with tables and chairs. People just sit around. Smoking and chatting.
ME: This is so bizarre to me. More because I didn't know anything about them. So mostly men at these hooker lounges and all they do is smoke and chat. I don't get.
(Now Naresh is laughing uncontrollably)
NARESH: You think I said "Hooker"!!? No, no, no, "Hookah". It is just a place to smoke using the bongs.
So then I learned what a hookah lounge was, and that they didn't (as far as Naresh knew) have anything to do with hookers.

Non-Fiction — Call AA Nick

Picked up Nick along the Danforth and dropped him on a corner downtown.

He spoke quickly, like his nerves were totally fried. He's maybe 25. Getting in my car his first sentence was, "Got out of rehab yesterday. 2-1/2 months without a drink and when I got home yesterday all I could think of was drinking. So I had one, just one to settle my nerves. Won't drink today though, well maybe one. One is okay right? One drink a day that's it...

So we had a pretty good conversation. He promised to contact AA but wouldn't wait until I looked up their number. I'm going to need to keep that kind of info more at the ready.

Anyway, I think Nick has a long road ahead of him. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

Non-Fiction — Scarborough General Hospital

So a guy gets in my car:
RIDER: Please just take the shortest route to Scarborough General, Emergency.
ME: No problem, you ok?
RIDER: Um, not really. But of a heart problem...just need to get there quickly. Oh, and this envelope holds all my records etc... If anything should happen before we get there just see that the medical staff that take me from your car get this.
ME: Sure, no problem.
Fastest trip to Scarborough General I've ever made.
If you get a chance, say a wee prayer for Mark. I think he could use a bit of a boost tonight :)

Non-Fiction — Baby Boy

So, I delivered a baby tonight! Well not really, but I did deliver an expectant mother and father to Sunnybrook. I'm no expert but sure sounded like the beginnings of labour in my back seat. So please say a little prayer for Emily and her husband tonight, that by morning they have their firstborn, a healthy baby boy ❤️

Non-Fiction — Sarah

Hope for the future:
Gave Sarah a ride uptown tonight from her place along the Danforth. Not long ago Sarah got rid of her downtown condo and downtown job for a "cozy little little corner of the real world" on the Danforth, along with a new job and new life at a grassroots startup focusing on environmental issues. She gave up a high paying job (so goodbye condo) and secure financial future to "focus on making the world a better place for her future children and grandchildren."
Good on ya Sarah. May your new dreams come true. <3

Non-Fiction — Aviva

Picked up Aviva late this afternoon from a school near Bathurst & Steeles. He was pretty young looking but, if I wanted to be generous, he may have been 14 or 15.

We get on our way to Avi's place and he says, "So. Big day tomorrow." I said oh really, how come? He said, "it's election day..."

Then we proceeded to have one of the best conversations I've ever had about politics.
There is hope Canada, and his name is Aviva.

Don't forget to vote tomorrow.

Non-Fiction — Molly

Dropped off Molly for her Air Canada flight to Vancouver. In the morning she takes the ferry to her family home in Victoria to spend a few days before heading back to LA where she is a freelance jewellery designer and photographer.

Won’t be the last Toronto sees of Molly though. She had such a good visit that when her lease in LA is up next Spring she plans on moving to the Kensington Market area of Toronto. See you in the Spring Molly :)

Non-Fiction — Jenica

I drove Jenica to visit a friend this evening. We'd never met but had a really great conversation in which she told me she is moving to Australia in 17 days. She visited as a teen and has since wanted to go back. Now she is a singer and has decided to establish her career down under. She was so excited and so full of life. Aren’t dreams fabulous!?

So for Jenica, and all those chasing their dreams, enjoy every step along the way. The Journey is the best part. Godspeed Jenica :)

Non-Fiction — Trace Manes Park

Dropped off a couple fares around the corner from Trace Manes Park in Leaside. So I stopped to watch a little league game. They're about the age I was when I played here around '67-'68. Great memories.
